    3. It's a reverse anagram of 'let's help' that leads to broke the spell

      Delete
    4. That's right. A good solve. You should also mention that broke is the anagrind.

      Delete
    5. Please explain reverse anagram, and how broke comes in the answer

      Delete
    6. 'Let's help' is the cryptic part of the clue, and it is 'the spell' scrambled.
      Broke is an anagram indicator, you must already know this;
      If we broke 'the spell' we can get 'Let's help'
      Broke the spell = Let's help
      In anagram clues, former kind of wordplay is given and latter has to be found, right?
      In reverse anagram, it is the exact opposite

    7. Thanks Sreelakshmi for very effective explanation . I now understand the concept of reverse anagram

  20. @AJ please elaborate. What is the definition? A musical term? If so, where is the second 't' coming from after rearranging routine? Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  21. There we go into the cryptic meaning of without= opp. of within. T (tempo) is within routine or (routine)* is without T. This is being used occasionally in CW.
